Microsoft recently unveiled the latest and greatest version of their online backup service, SkyDrive. The service allows users with Microsoft Live IDs access to 25 GB of free online storage. The idea seems to be two-fold: first, you could use your 25 GB for backing-up your files and documents to ensure that even if your house burns down, your data is safe. Or, you could use the service as a channel to securely share photos and other multimedia with friends.Whether or not SkyDrive is going to succeed in the long run, 25 GB is a LOT of free space which will hopefully serve as a trendsetter in the expansion of free online storage services.
